A Poem by Dan Birker
"

toasty

"

so i greeted the open palms with a smile,

but they replied with frank claps.

i spoke ‘hello’ but they waved ‘so long’.

i said “what?” and they said “here”.

‘why wont you speak clearly hands of mine?’

they were too callus from the slaps i gave her,

she deserved each hit, they made her face golden brown.

she loved me with these hands, but they only broke snowflake flesh instead of right side

chest.

Interesting. I think we're all at war with ourselves really.
