Take these broken wings and learn to fly

Take these broken wings and learn to fly

A Poem by Dark Heart of Winter

Cast to the bottom of the storm
my wings are broken
i will never fly again
my eyes, blinded
i will never see again
my dreams are shattered
i will never hope again.
i hear echoes in the roaring clouds
lightning-sharp judgements
harsh as thunder
massing around me
overwhelming, stifling, cannot breathe
too dark for blinded eyes
to see a depthless tower of gloom
pressing down upon me.
the sun, out of sight so long
i lost faith in its existence
like a god who failed me.
I can barely move
my limbs are broken
my shattered wings
twisted and caught around
my failing body.
and now it begins to hail
another insult to rub
into my scathing wounds.
shivering, shaking, caught
in a fathomless despair
that none could understand
without tasting its cold sickness.
my blood seeps out, colorless
i weep as i realize
i never said goodbye
to the ones
who called me an angel
not knowing i was just a fool with wings.
i retreat within myself,
growing another shell in which to hide
i enter my heart, blackened and hard
burned, cold, and scarred.
But then, within me i find
a spark of life
a last specimen of hope.
i tear myself open, i reach in
to cradle the dying light
i hold it to my ear
and faintly, under the roaring storm
clashing and screaming above me
i hear a voice made of tears
not my own
angry, begging me to find a way
pleading for me
to take these broken wings and learn to fly.

Much like the phoenix we all take those life lessons that bring us to our lowest yet we still see the desire to fly away in to clearer skies from this burned state. We all can be fools at times (though my kindred would beg to differ with me at least on that subject) but it is in that folly we find our way to the brighter side; maybe not away from our demons, but at least to have them leashed and limited to a smaller area of our lives - limited destruction and chaos.

I am a man of may issues, big and small, so this piece speaks to my own darkness, the shade that looms over me; my past, my present, and the potential future the ominous cloud of doubts and regrets that I can't always shake even if I get a bit better at it every day.

Keep this up and I will surely keep reading.

I'm really in love with your rhyme scheme in this one particularly and the imagery used in your poem is very descriptive which i like very much. The only thing I would tell you to do differently is that especially in these longer ones you should make your entire length into a smaller stanzas. It's more appealing for the reader and easier to follow. But that is just my tip I think you have really blossomed into an amazing writer :)
