To Dream in Color

To Dream in Color

A Poem by Richard McLin

Man questions his thoughts

Do you dream in color? Does the pain and sorrow of your day follow you into night, or is that the only time you can escape? Where you close your eyes and see oceans, dolphins, and other beauties, other miracles.

Do you dream in color? Do you recall everything you did during the day, just to replay it in your head? Maybe hoping to get things right this time around. When you close your eyes do you see yourself doing all the chores, all the errands you forgot to accomplish? Perhaps you see yourself as an adventurer or a pirate. Something grander, more romantic than yourself.

Do you dream in color? Do you see your life and watch all the missed opportunities? When you close your eyes do you see the one who got away, or the job you wanted but another person received. Perhaps you see yourself as a king, or queen, a person with the power to control lives.

I dream in color. I see the events of the day, and of the night. I see myself doing all the things that I forgot to do. When I close my eyes I see myself just as I am, for that is the most exciting, and I see myself with my lover, for that is the most romantic dream of all.

Thank you for the great review.
I dream in stark black and white, but color would be a fantastic addition... Heh, no, seriously... This was a wonderful write, and made me think A LOT... A lot a lot a lot... I see myself as a ruined king, perhaps... Wonderfully penned...

these are soul-searching questions about what is in our subconscious. it takes courage to see your self as yourself at the end of the day. great poem.

an astouding piece.. more than the deep meaning of the piece i was occupied with the complete thought of colos and dreams...specially the first stanza that asks if pain and sorrow make their way to our dreams or not...
I think they dreams are painted in almost all the colors...and yea..they are dark sometimes..but isn black a color? will I actually value the other subtle colors of life if black stops to exist..i dont think so? I am sure I wont?
and same is the case with dreams...they do turn to nightmares in my case have a bad habbit of turning to reality as well..but even then..i wont let go of this beautiful ability to dream...and i wont let go of any of the colors that my dreams are painted in!
an exceptional piece of art this write it!
thoroughly enjoyed!

I dream too damn much. Sometimes it feels that I can't escape my dreams in the day and I can't escape my life in my dreams.

Great work with very thought provoking.
