Semicolon

Semicolon

A Poem by James Paulin

Two little marks few dare apply

To separate in commas place.

Pause a tad; period deny;

misunderstood in any case.

Symbolic as a winking eye

in text to show that type of face.

Ignored so much it almost died;

when as an icon it found space.

;-)

Very cute and very true. Seldom do people use it in their writing nowadays unless it's a academic writing. I use them in essays but most people have it drilled into their brains that they're best not used in creative pieces. Well done.

Yes the oft misunderstood semicolon was nearly extinct
until a genius incorporated it into an emoticon as a wink ;-)

I use them when I am adding a new thought in a sentence. I use a comma when it is a continuatiion of an old thought. But I am not sure that is even right!

people who don't watch what they eat often receive a more intimate definition of semi-colon...

oh, as an admirer of punctuation; I use it whenever I can; but, sometimes I use it mistakenly;;;but never more often than not....
