Moxie

Moxie

A Poem by James Paulin

One positive mind dissolves deepest despair

One brave heart leads on any worthy cause

One determined person makes everyone care

One soul resolved redeems others with flaws

Press on with courage, confidence so strong

Admired by all is mettle seen within

Gumption unfailing fuels hope all along

Backbone vital to stand up and fight to win

In kitchen or classroom, at war or in sport

Each problem comes with a cant or can do

Great promise feeds achievement of every sort

Bold leaders inspire to take their cue

Touched by example from a hospital room

Moxie surpasses deaths sorrowful gloom

The message your poem brings of ultimate positivity is wonderfully touching. In a world of writing where people are so often focused on sadness, your piece actually brought tears to my eyes in its sunny yet very real outlook. The courage and strength amongst life's many troubles reminds me of one of my favorite poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, "The Light of Stars".

and they do it in passing, and standing in their wake, we wonder what happened
