Acquired Eye

Acquired Eye

A Poem by James Paulin

above to see are sun or moon

birds flit and flock or float on high

if only that, one stops too soon

heavens view hides within fair skies

look down at water, dirt or grass

when short in sight that’s what is there

peek deep for beauty soon to pass

for nature paints beneath our stare

gaze inward to train clearer eyes

slow paces from full speed to still

what now appears will bring surprise

perceptions’ slant rests with our will

I love the rhythm in this piece, not to mention the message you convey. Nothing really does compare to stopping to smell the flowers. The imagery in this poem really made me want to go out and get some fresh air...and since I'm at work and I am procrastinating, I think I might just go do that now! =)
