UNREQUITED LOVE

UNREQUITED LOVE

UNREQUITED LOVE

Perched on a cloud gazing aloof,
He is not like his brothers and sisters.
He dares to feel, he knows it’s taboo,
Inhibition broken, emotions unsuppressed,
Repercussions set aside,
HE is not impressed.

Foolish and naïve, driven by desire.
He is unafraid of HIS fury.
The heart aches, the body is not whole,
Eternity spent looking through the window.
She is not an object.
Her heart beats like a viola lead serenade.
Nothing else matters, his feelings won’t fade.
Sacred and untouchable,
A forbidden fruit.
He admires her from afar.
Beauty unmatched and indescribable,
His yearning impregnable.
Anguish flows through him,
Sadness overpowers him.
Fulfillment is his end goal,
He has no choice but to surrender.

With broken wings he senses his futility.
They accuse him of madness and lunacy.
Far from celestial,
Filled with brittle rage.
He’s taking a chance
and breaking out of the cage.

He wastes no time, no longer divine.
She must know and know now.
He tells her of his world
and what he’s forsaken,
How angels fail to her in comparison,
How she reminds him of flying into the sunsets.
The most beautiful of moments.
Sadly, she doesn’t share his sentiments.

Rattled in ruin,
Chasm on his heart,
He sinks further into the dark.
He knows suffering but no torment like this.
Unrequited love, a foul agony to bear.
A dead man walking,
But does anybody care?

Far from his kingdom, a castaway.
His quintessence a minor formality,
Lost spirit, foregone immortality.
He’s forced to live out his days
vulnerable like the rest of us.
Await his judgment he must.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

What's that I hear? Oh the applause in the background.. Dang! This was fab!!

I was lost inside your words, the imagery superb.. That's what I like about your pieces. They have a voice that speaks to the soul..

This peice is very well written. You write with a sense of compassion that others in this position would forget, instead of focusing on the anger felt you focus on the pain and the love. Again very nicely done. Keep Writing.

Nothing to comment on really, this was beautiful and very well written. The story unfolds at an eager pace and the title is so fitting. Your writing was spot on on this one old chap. I am suitably impressed.

The movie, "City of Angels" immediately comes to mind when reading this poem, albeit your poem has quite a different ending. Unrequited love indeed! To give up heaven only to be rejected. I suppose all unrequited love is this way. Love can give us wings to fly; and when lost, quickly absconds with our wings.
