A Poem by Lilly Negoi

i saw in his study,
on a shelf,
a tiny stone

it looked like nothing precious to me,
neither diamond nor some other valuable ore,
‘twas just a piece of rock,
of an undefined color and an irregular shape

i took it in my palm, gazed at it for a while,
then raised my eyebrows and asked him
why he kept it

he smiled and asked back:
“how does it feel to hold in your hand
the heart of a mountain?”

Love can be found in any inanimate object, and I think you made the irregular sacred with this piece.

‘twas just a piece of rock,
of an undefined color and an irregular shape'

small/large, the tiny stone a fragment of the mountain that shapes the landscape with its immensity. A highly refined poem that leaves us feeling philosophical. fantastic.

Thank you for the amazing poem. I agree with the ending. To hold a stone is like touching a mountain. A outstanding poem.
