Institution

Institution

A Poem by audrie

Institutions embrace confusion
Dismembered thoughts are everywhere
Some souls have deep abrasions
Some too numb to feel the fear

I have too much time on my hands
To digest the situation
Staring at these four white walls
Only adds to my frustration

Some are sitting in the corner
With empty transfixed stares
Some are rocking back and forth
Pulling out their hair

This institutions overcrowded
Close my eyes and wish it's not
Hope people will remember you
Won't leave you there to rot

Most of them are in a vegetative state
Parked at different places
Some are here forever
Traveling endless amounts of paces

And these meds that I take
Cause cremation of the mind
But I must take them as scheduled
Everyday at the same time

Thanks for the kind review!
Loved the last stanza as it relates to meds causing cremation of the of mind. It's a stunning visualization of what really happens behind the closed doors of most mental institutions. Great work audrie, a gripping & profound read. :)

I agree with the logic of this poem. When we are in the vegetative state. Weak people fall to greedy rules and laws.

The above line is happening today. A generation of people afraid to stand up is a scary future. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thanks for the review - I'm sad and glad that you can relate.
Saddening, very much so - are meds the answer? I am torn on that question...this is beautifully woven and left a sting in my heart, no-one should be seen as a statistic and not a person...moving poetry x

Being inside vicious cycle could be pretty suffocating and this shows strong emotions of those times but in a very rhythmic way.

a little "cuckoos nest" meets "girl interrupted"

we fight the demons...we refuse to be one of the vacant stares...there is still life and sanity left in us...won't somebody see that?
