My Lover's Lies

My Lover's Lies

A Poem by Christy

In love with a dream
of a man I have seen
who tells me great things
great stories of our future

Together we sleep side by side
turning our backs to each other
both thinking of two opposite thoughts
me thinking of us, he thinking he must

Tell me the truth to satisfy my wonders
he works hard all day, sometimes
onto the night, when he’s away
his loyalty is strong toward himself

He can’t quite decide of my life’s fate
if he wants to have me here
or there when he’s old, so he smiles
again at me, takes my small hand

Leads me to his door, kisses my face
it’s late tonight, you should get some sleep
it’s not safe at night. So I’ll
be sure to leave the porch light on

So you can see your way
to your car in the drive, I’ll be around he
pushes, as I turn to tell him goodnight
but the door is already shut

While he is inside, on the other side
where I am not allowed to see what happens
to hear him speak to his world
that will always be without me.

Very good poem and good use of metaphors for the way he is thinking
