Guarding is Not Defending

tacit eugenics, survival of the fittest

beyond strength, beyond even will

into the realm of the truly evil

paper should have an expiration date

mass collections of notes like black holes

become averse to new ascensions

creating despots versed in oppressions

with a mass too great to care

about anything other than keeping it

when 'rights' and 'duties' become one

to unshackle from the burdens of what once was just

becomes paramount to all under yoke

there is no protocol for revolution

there is no tolerance for oppression by despot

once safeguarding my security - now you guard me with security

jailhouse living - guarding is not defending

tacitly now - freedom's become 'survival of the richest'

editing all depositories, records sanitized clean

shackling us to the notion - 'in the interest of security'; we gave in

averse to the ruin of an ideological war in the flesh

averse to the ruin of our sons and our daughters

ignorance in comfort; cowardice is comforting

"it could be worse"  it will get worse

revolutions do not have expiration dates

tacit life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

when replaced by despots and usurpers

the unshackling becomes just

free blood is virtuous

no death in just defense of it is superfluous

The sunglasses are throwing me off but that looks like a pic of Jefferson.
American history not my forté but he drafted the Declaration of Independence and was a lawyer no?
Guarding and defending are not the same, I had not thought of this but I guess it's the difference between doing your duty because it's expected and being passionate enough to die for what you believe. Guarding vs defending... boils down to how much you believe and care. Some good lines. Anyway, that's my two cents.
I never truly understand anything you write. Just snippets. I had wondered if the line about paper having an expiry date might mean abolishment of treaties or agreements maybe? Of contracts?

Money... and wealth. Paper notes is money in this poem. That is Thommy Jefferson. Who was a lawyer, but back then all the truly great statesmen were polymaths. He was very good at many things (not so much war and he was not against slavery or making babies with his slaves). He was the principle contributor to the declaration but it was very much a compromise between everyone at the continental congress that year. The inclusion of god in the declaration was something he was not happy with, he was spiritual but he did not believe in a personal god. In fact most of America's founding father's did not believe in a personal god. They believed in Jesus as a truly great philosopher but they scoffed at the notion of an all powerful and all knowing benevolent being. (Jefferson later published a condensed version of the bible, omitting all supernatural events and mentions of god... "The Moral Teachings of Jesus of Nazerath", aka the Jefferson Bible.) Anyway, besides the declaration another of his notable contributions was holding out on signing off on the finished US Constitution until the Bill of Rights were included. That would be a very different document without the bill of rights. (Jefferson's contributions are too great to be listed here, he's done dozens upon dozens of equally impressive things besides the few I just mentioned).

Those were the times... he was still considered very progressive on his views of slavery. Also, his sexual relationship with his "slaves" was only with one women, Sally Hemmings after his wife died while he was the minister to France in the late 1780's. It's not complete fact but it's likely he had at least 2 and more likely 6 children with this women. She was about 14 or 15 years old at the time... but again, that's not that weird for those times. I'd like to think Jefferson would behave differently if alive today. He was no Andrew Jackson... that dude was a horrible person no matter the times.
