Married Man

Married Man

A Poem by Frieda P

Married man, why do you entice me so
you promise me beyond the moon and stars
when we both know they're not yours to give
sweep me off my feet, dance me, romance me
pale azure moonlight is so thrilling and inviting
my mind plays a melody, an old tune of betrayal
have lived forsaken, been on the other side of midnight
I say without hesitation, 'sorry, my dance card is replete'
yet, I can't help myself but marvel at what 'could have been.'

sometimes, our feelings to someone are stronger than our control. let me say, love is sweet but at the same time it learns us how to be selfish. we get selfish when we love someone wanting them to be only for us. we love them to feel selfish twards us as well. this is the fact we try to ignore about love but it is real..
very nicely penned..

Thank you! :-)
First off, I like the way you have put this together... visually. It looks good sitting there in its ever lengthening lines. The flow is really good. I think because you took care to show this isn't a quote "rant," but a serious piece of poetry. It has a quiet, steady feel to the voice of this poem. As for the content, I think it is excellent.
For as long as there are couples, someone is going to cheat on the other. It may not happen at first, when everything is all about the other... but eventually, a stray eye will catch another eye. Sad, but true. The statistics show both men and women have grown close to being about the same, as far as cheating is concerned. And in the end, it almost always ends with all parties hurt... perhaps beyond repair in some cases.
The ending is perfect and shows the nature of the human mind. The could have been. We've all had and wondered about them.
Well done, Frieda. And that is from a married man.

Some would say being tempted by a married person is as much a sin. Do not covet thy neighbours wife! Nice thought provoking piece Frieda.

Hehe. Yay. Squishy huggy buggys to you too. xo
This reminds me of another variation of the situation I wrote about in the poem Never. Moments of connection should be seen for only that and nothing more. To push out side the box of commitment causes the quality of the individual to implode upon themselves.

Agreed, not many people see it as that.
There are so many thrilling 'what could have beens' in life. I like to console myself with the thought that they they would probably be very exciting at first but it would become everyday and ordinary eventually. Besides, if he can be unfaithful to one partner the chances are he'll do it again.

Those things left to mystery are a good thing sometime. Real life is never as good as the imagination and wish. I like the thoughts and the desires in the excellent poetry.

True, it's hardly ever what we conjure up in our mind's eye. Thanks Coyote
A married man is a married man. But as long as the woman is willing to look past he's as desirable even more so than a single one. Something about married men that appeals to women, I can't really put a finger on it but i've seen it happen oh too often. Beautiful poem though, kudos' on choosing this 23 year old over some married man :P haha.
