Sleep, If You Dare

Sleep, If You Dare

A Poem by Frieda P
"

nightmares or reality...?

"
Sleep, yes go to sleep
so you can visit that hell again
when the night arrests your breath
until it's nothing but a whimper
it comes again to rape your soul
leaves merely a reeling shell
madness in being buried alive
are they nightmare or memories
a blend of blood's spilling guts
twisting  entrails till they fail
bleeding the heart, sucking it flaccid
neurons flashing in neon putrid green,
deep repulsive murky shadows of inky ebony
pulsating to the beat of slicing knives momentum
they don't hide in the closet or under the bed
these are the true monsters in your head, as the un-dead
take a chance on some zzz's tonight
if you're really lucky, perhaps you will wake...

Now you have me feeling creepy. What if our dreams/nightmares are reality and our waking state is dreams/nightmares?

Wow! Somehow we have had the same nightmare. I was about 7 and I dreamt this very poem and the artwork. When I awoke the dream remained. Turned out to be the side effect of 104 degree fever but seriously this took me back. Sleep if you dare indeed. Well written.

"they don't hide in the closet or under the bed
these are the true monsters in your head," I felt this deeply.. I have flashbacks and reocurring nightmares of a drugged rape from many years ago.. It is these monsters in the head that can drive one insane.. Thrilling write.. shallimarRose

Some chilling images and eerie descriptions in the realm of nighttime terror. I luckily don't suffer often from these, but I think you still did a good job with creating a dark and distasteful experience that should be avoided if at all possible.

The descriptive and empowering ultilization of fear is perfection, well one.
