Un-versed Life

What would life be without poetry or song

sounds of a rabbit hole without air

dreadful thoughts, living without the magic

that transcends breathing itself

butterflies without wings

kites without strings

flowers with no scent

tears with no emotions

dust at the stem of the thorn

oh but a nightmare would be

silence in wastelands now born

crying as syllables flee

Staring at blank plastic walls

colored of teardrops un-cried

nothing, the sound as it calls

heavy, the depth of the sighs

~

“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane

by those who could not hear the music.”  Friedrich Nietzsche

~

A pen of empty ink a' pour

trumpets blare without a sound

pages crumbled, tossed the floor

cello strings upon the ground

sonnets singed on open flames

ashes float of broken verse

smoke filled eyes of clouded stains

conjured up within the curse

zephyr's without atmosphere

words sans color or meaning

memories held captive without a melody

only final good byes & no hellos

hard to imagine how it would be

if that first note was never played

the first rhyme never written

darkness within creativity

What a pitiful picture you two have weaved. These two sections were my favorites, and seemed to me to invoke such sad visions.

loved this stanza so much! the whole thing really was a lovely read reflecting on the ins and outs of poetry and music and art...what on earth would we do without them? i think any poet or any artist can relate to this piece personally. great work you two!

That's one of Jack's, I love it too, thanks so much Dana!
Life without poetry would be bland at best, I would imagine.

Bland & mundane, I agree Tai, luckily we never have to find out, thanks...
I'm so thankful this is not true but you gave such light upon life without all these beautiful qualities that lots of people take for granted. Thank you for shedding light on what could be. Well done my friend.

Thanks Benji, hard to imagine I know, no vinyl! ;-)
It would be a mare of the darkest night. Especially in this very left brained world we live in.
