Ice'd Lullabye

Ice'd Lullabye

A Poem by Frieda P

Your untouchable promises
     chill'd in my veins
my fragile posies were left
           out in the frosted reign
swept me up in your darkly
                 abstruse sweetness
etch'd love songs
          on my skin's tremblings
prayers that were answer'd
          with sad weakness
lullabies dull'd my sensibilities
        and dying fortitude
fell on my knees upon
         my own strangled heart
rescuing  me from myself,
          you brush'd lusty tendrils aside
in contemptible silent sighs,
               from the depths of apathy
i need your emptiness to
      fill my void'd briny spirit
frosted over my convictions,
i lie frozen in icy drifts of regret

This poem is so powerful I'm having a hard time finding the right words to express how I feel about it, Frieda! It's rare that I'm at a loss for words, but I think this is one of those cases.

Nonetheless, I still like it; if you moved me that much, I suppose you've done your job!!

My gawd...this was powerful! It put chills in my spine with it's bluntness. Thank you for this. Your use of words are so amazing and raw.

As long as I'm not singing it, tone deaf here, thanks Thomas.
One of my faves. You really touched upon the inner spirit with this supple write.

Thanks so much Michael.
You are fearless when it comes to playing with words, Frieda. I absolutely love this and the song is beautiful, too. This is my kind of music. Do you have more songs to recommend?

There's a certain aspect of love that entices me in the way it tempts us to betray our own rational thoughts, seducing us into squashing our hearts with our own knees as we bend to express our gratitude and undying love for another. Cynical perspectives of love aside, I do believe this tells the story of a toxic relationship carrying on despite one party already knowing that the love is toxic. I can relate. You've done well with this piece.

Unfortunately too many can, makes you wonder why, toxic being the key word, thanks Tai.

The above lines are powerful. We will fill emptiness with the wrong things when we can't control our need and want. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
