True to my word

I tell myself not to ask for so much

as a way to cope with the knowledge

that I won't likely reach any of my dreams.

I tell myself to expect the worst

and hope for decency

because it always ends that way, it seems.

I exert the positive to others

and keep negativity on silence

so no one will have to know.

I've kept quiet for years

ever since this began

one day long ago.

As time goes on

I'll say less.

and less.

Then nothing.
