Photographs

A Poem by Mari' Emeraude

Looking through our photographs
reliving days of old
as I wept,
I felt regret
for a love that had gone cold

How long had this been going on?
In every pose you'd smile
our wedding day;
the kids' birthdays
pretending all the while

How could I have missed the signs?
Was I really that naïve?
Apparently,
you didn't want me
and just couldn't wait to leave

This picture shows our little girl
as she stands next to you
it seemed so odd
through your façade
I still didn't have a clue

Here's one of our honeymoon;
our son's first day of school
You didn't let on,
you'd soon be gone
I feel like such a fool!

Now looking through our photographs
my eyes are blurred with tears
your happy glow
was just a 'show'
to end in coming years

You are welcome

Such a sad tale of loss and betrayal. The form is great and the poem, a tragic expression.

I appreciate you taking the time.
I can't think of anything more disappointing and torturous than to find out your closest soul mate, the father of your children, and a man your family grew to love was concealing feelings so much different than what everyone thought. The way you put your feelings in a chronological order through each picture mentioned drives home the sadness and disappointment in a way no one can misunderstand.

You don't mention if any other woman was to blame for his departure but I suppose that wouldn't matter. When children are involved there is nothing sadder.

Consequently, I was in the post office the other day and a woman was filling out forms. She mentioned that she needed two copies of a form to give to someone so they would know the father took off, leaving her and her kids alone. In saying that, she turned to look at the few people standing behind her. Her young son was standing beside her and I could see the devastation on his face when she mentioned it.

Sometimes life sucks and individuals can feel cursed. I hope things can work out for you and the children. They don't deserve to feel abandoned by a parent.

Such a sadly but finely meshed tragedy, Mari. Your metred phrases show great control bearing in mind the wretchedness of the content. Maybe true, maybe not, but it certainly shows how time can be cruel to a marriage.. and of course, how photographs show such a misleading proof of once upon.. ..
