Don't Go Daddy

Don't Go Daddy

A Poem by G. K. Bostic
"

For April P-A-D prompt: "Don't blank blank"

"

Don’t hit me again,
I promise to be good.
I’ll try harder to do what I should.

Don’t leave us,
I know it’s my fault.
I promise I’ll change whatever I’m doing wrong.

Don’t hurt Mommy,
She was just trying to help.
I’ll be good so you don’t have to fight.

Don’t cry Daddy,
It will be okay.
We’ll all try harder if you’ll just stay.

Don’t forget us Daddy,
I love you, and we’ll be right here.
I’m sorry I made you go.

Bye-Bye Daddy..
Please come back for my kindergarten play.
I promise I won't cry...

I'm amazed at how you were able to encapsulate a good story filled with emotion in just a few stanzas. (=
Nice work. =)

Awesome, intense and truly incisive write on a a very delicate and painful topic. The way it was written added to its impact and each line cuts through the heart and consciousness. Truly a brilliant masterpiece.

These words are like little knives stabbing me in the heart. Reverse the genders, and I was the five-year old pleading with daddy to stop crying. Even after almost sixty years, I still feel the pain.
We have to pass a test to get a driver's license, but in order to assume the most important position in the world, (being a parent) no qualifications at all are required.
This is very well done, my friend, and brings much needed attention to a sad and all too frequent event.

oh god this was a powerful write!! so sad - the undertones of abuse - the sad justifications and trying to overcome it from the childs perspective was chilling - the "don't forget us" - ah this topic always makes me annoyed with the father ha - well expressed, sad, haunting write!
