The Fall of Life

The Fall of Life

A Poem by Margaret

No one told me it was Fall.

No one needed to.

The cool light breeze might have told me.

I turned my collar up, pulled my jacket tight,

Sat on the park bench taking in the wondrous sight.

The light breeze boasted

Its heavier Fall air;

Spring and summer colors fading away;

Some plants preparing to die"as expected;

Others lay to rest, to be later resurrected.

Fall dons a color all its own.

And there I saw it.

In the tree close by, full in splendor and majesty.

I watched a leaf fall gently, proud of its golden descent.

Having been chosen for a purpose"no sin to repent.

For It had been faithful

To its calling,

Providing beauty while waving in shades of green,

Hiding the sun to shade children at play;

Glistening with God’s majesty on a rainy day.

But now Leaf is falling,

Gracefully, ever so slowly.

Giving up Its life of purpose in the changing tree.

And now I ponder:

Have I been faithful? Have I glistened in my calling?

Have I provided? Am I"an aging soul"gracefully falling?

No one told me it was Fall.

No one needed to.
