Ultima Humana

Ultima Humana

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

man in the strangest creature,

one that has been to the moon

and the one that has drilled down

an eighth of the way to the mantle

but of our absolute creation,

our absolute existence and

our absolute demise

we know nothing

absoutely, completely, wholly nothing

we are the agnostic species

we have sensed quarks

and black holes

directly and indirectly

but the "ultima humana",

the vexation, the puzzlement

that is us in the collective sense

is the riddle wrapped in the enigma

and the answer providedby the

agnostic is the best one given

the available evidence

humans are the earthen dark matter

sensed indirectly but unsure about

its very existence

we don't know and probably can't know

and that's likely why religion came into being

and humans will likely invent the framework

that murders religion or not

we are habit-formers as we are habit-breakers

the spell may break but the strangeness shall

remain indefinitely

As humans we can be quite naive or egotistical... not realizing that many advances in technology are great but many of them are also destroying us.

Always good to read your poetry. This poem need to be read, broke down and understood by a wise students in a literature class. I like the strong statements and the logic of this poem. I thought the world was loco as a kid in school in 1970 in 7th grade. Today the desire of the world went more crazy and I believe it will be very difficult to get repaired. If possible? Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

~ a very riveting and thought-provoking read, monsieur kenneth... i may not agree with certain parts... but i definitely agree with the last three lines... to a great extent... i feel poetic expression nullifies that strangeness... as you successfully did on this very page... or perhaps it's just me who thinks that strangeness dissipates when it is articulated... either way, this piece is a rewarding read...

You have written an intriguing piece, with layers left to peel back. There are so many topics of discussion here, and religion being the main point. Well done on this magnetic write!
