Born Normal

Born Normal

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

Born normal

yet ever so tiny

A fighter on par

with Holyfield

ever so mighty

A miracle of nature

yet kept going by a

staff made of dedication

This is what the father

has faith in

This is what the mother

has faith in, even though

she sleeps comfortably

and makes quiet gestures

to something above her

and outside her

Sipping sludge,

he remembers the

operating room

and he was calm,

he was cool and

he was collected

because the staff

acted similarly,

years and hours

of experience

behind them,

the section went

well and the raspberry

that is here today

grasped her daddy's

finger for the first time

For once, he is at ease,

zen with everything,

kind of maybe,

but who really knows?

He is glad for one thing,

he decided to be here

for this day after all

And he will always love them

congrats on receiving the world's greatest gift my friend.
this is beautiful and moving, one day your little raspberry will be able to read it and understand how you felt--what a treasure.

My daughter was born a month early, and though such fears were present, it was beautiful to see her and feed her and feel her fighting for this thing called life so many take for granted. What a stunning write you've shared with us all.

I feel you on this one. " A fighter on par with Holyfield ever so mighty "
and "This is what the father has faith in" deep yet grateful. I wish you much strenght, and brightness.

Yes, very beautiful. A reflection on a true wonder.

Very beautiful. These are the big moments we remember and probably what we recall when our lives flash before our eyes.

Is this what I think it is, or just a looking ahead? Whichever it is, it's nicely poised on the edge of poignancy and beauty!

Very poetic.... almost without effort.
I envy your ability to present this in such a metered
easy pace although the story is so emotional.
I can feel the Zen and resolve in every stanza...

I too was born under such conditions so I can relate on a very real and unconsciously close level from line one...
or should I say "You had me at Hello" :)
