The Lovers

The Lovers

A Poem by gen scott

Do you know what lies
behind the sheet?
Do you know that person?

How many sheets do they have?

The sheet does not protect you
For it is translucent;
You can see what the light allows
and nothing more

Your lover's love is not true
It is blind;
It sees the beauty of what
light shines upon it

You cannot see their flaws of
what keeps them awake at night
Or the harm in what they say to you
You can only see what looks to be a smile

But the smile is not a soft smile,
it is a dark, enticing smile
That draws you in
Because there is no truth with the sheet

You too, have a sheet,
a cover of secrets
What are you hiding?
How many covers do you have?

Is your cover for someone else?
Do you too have a cynical smirk?
Or is that cloth covering your own face
from the dangers within?

Lift it up from
Your face and feel
the warmth of the sun
Upon your skin

See the world in
All it's beauty and horror,
not concealed;
Unmasked

This was an interesting read. I haven't tried writing based on an image. It looks fun. :)

Ya, I think I will. I've been dead in the water lately, when it comes to writing.
