My friend

My friend

A Poem by Ghiasquared

My friend
The boy next door
His brother
A dark foreboding day

I try to erase
The pain of remembrance
It lives on
In nightmares of shame

My friend
Their dad's gun
I told them not to play
With such dangerous things

I fled
Danger's not my thing
To this day
Regret floods me

My friend
My own fear
I could have stopped
What happened that day

The old Oak tree
Still stands
Broken and gnarled
Next to moms house

My friend
His brother
Playing with
Their dad's gun

The shot I heard
Everyone ran
The tears in my eye's
As blood grew on him

My friend
The lifeless one
His brother
With tears too

My friend
Who died in vain
I always remember
I always regret...
