The Black Girl

The Black Girl

A Poem by emone emmanuel
"

She was abused,raped&and almost killed.

"
And so she cried that morning
When she discovered
That they have sold her
For the price of a cow

Stop crying woman the father shouted
You ought to say thank you father
For giving me the privilege
Of womanhood and motherhood

I am not a woman she replied
I am only a girl of fourteen years
Please don't sell me father she cried
I will still be your doctor tomorrow

Their laughter replaced her weeping
Her wisdom they call foolishness
Even her pain is their joy
Irony of life I guess

Raped in the first night
She slept in her husband`s house
Afflicted the second night
Then she adjusted to pain

She was turned into a slave
Whose dreams will end in the kitchen
Hopes were ruined by ill hand of fate
And by the hands of greedy men

I saw her crying in my dream
Crying for help
Like a living dead
A walking corpse

Don't be deceived by her forced smiles
For that black girl I know
Is living in hell
Tormented by a demon

Don't say she is not my daughter
Join in the fight of liberation
The black girl must live
She shall not die

Very sad and unfortunately familiar even in the millennium it is still very present. How true your words ring and I'm so sorry that they are.
