Church... At School?

Church... At School?

A Poem by GlamGirl
"

Amen!

"

I looked down the pew.

My friend is signaling me

In the code we made for

Times like this.

I pretend I don’t see,

And turn my attention to

The Priest.

He is muttering a prayer

Over the bread and wine.

Almost time for a snack!

I recite a few prayers and

Get in line to receive the Lord.

I stop myself.

I am receiving the Lord!

Do we casually snack on the

Father of us all?!

I bow my head and start humming

the song that is cracking over our

cheap speaker system.

What have I learned at this Catholic school?

I glanced over at my teacher,

Who is serving the Eucharist.

There is a long line of

Bored middle schoolers

waiting for their

Communion.

After placing the bread into my mouth,

I headed back to my seat.

I ignored the comments of

How bad the bread tasted,

and how bored people were.

I even blocked out the kid who asked:

“Can I go up for seconds?”

I was with God.

He was present within me.

Amen!

True story!
I go to a private Catholic school. We have Mass every month as a whole school, and most of the kids see it as an opportunity to get out of class.
This is my first time writing something religious, so I hope it came out well.
**This poem was inspired by 'A Corpus Christi Mindset' by Chris G. Vaillancourt. Go check out his poem, it is really good!**

Note: Lemontine, I fixed it! Haha!

Nice. Who was signaling you? I just always wave like an idiot in situations like that. I know who the teacher was~ Is this the poem Micro was talking about? People have told me stories from being at our school and sitting in the back with Mr W and falling asleep. Or was that Mr Margolas(Not sure how to spell that)? I don't remember now. Well this reflects what actually goes on during mass at school very well.

A bit choppy at times but otherwise a well written piece. I likethe catholic aspect, any other religion would do fine here but catholic is prolly how you were raised. I enjoyed the read very much hoever and will read more from you!

The little Catholic Prodigy.

Not that it's a bad thing, I am Catholic myself. Sometimes, God asks you to block out all the distractions to find the one priority that is relevant to you at that time.

The poem is good. It has a few spots where the flow is choppy, but for this piece I don't think it matters. Overall a great job. I can't wait to read you when your in your prime. Keep writing.

Always,

Matthew
