A young one

Tender, soft n pure

Always, look up

For support, others’ lead

I remember even now

It was dawn, Just about

Elder brother yelling

Hey! Come on over

Being the youngest

I was ready to oblige

In fact waiting, willing

Seeking, an opportunity

He was double my age

I had just crossed 6

“Hey! Look here!”

It was a quarter $

Offering me a deal

A reward “6 pence”

Prove smart, to trick

Some one, with the quarter

Take this quarter

Walk over to the shop

Make a small buy

Few pence, Peanuts!

He warned me

Be careful, don’t mess up!

Keep the quarter

Crown’s face top up

I ran over

Bought with pleasure

My little dream eat

The lady returned change

Something wrong!

The lady was furious

Yelling n abusive

I was frightened

Taking back nuts n change

Reprimanding me, she yelled

Go away, don’t ever

Dare this again!!

I never heard what she said

Forced her return my quarter

Else, my brother sure would

Beat me up, for a bad job done

Later, I learnt

What went wrong!

Why the deal

Fail to click!

What my brother gave

Wasn’t a quarter

In fact a pence

Concealed inside silver foil

Well rubbed n polished

The Crown head looked

Like a real quarter

With all glow silver

what a mean ole brother. This has a nice story telling quality to it, although I hope you got one up on your brother at some point if this is a slice of history and not fiction. I am an only child so I don't always "Get" sibling rivalry - but my own boys...wow....they are ROTTEN to each other one minute and sharing PC games the next. Peace. great poem.

This is sweet. And how typical for the older brother to lead the younger brother into trouble!

Pal, I really liked this story! It was told so well, I watched the video...and with the music and images, I found myself snickering at what a trick your brother pulled on you! Excellent stuff, my friend! :)

What a tricky fellow - the things siblings do to one another...my sister and I had such moments. An interesting tale told well. Succinct and well written. Thank you.
