Self made celebrities decide they will tell us who should run the country and how. Then they accept millions of dollars to star in movies advocating the exact opposite views. Dr. Wood! thank you for your time taken... yes...the movies are way from my childhood ...every Saturday my friends and I would hop the bus downtown for a half day of 2 feature films ..news reel, 30" of cartoons and war correspondence ... all for half a dollar ..

Does seem a bit hypocritical. I had not really thought of that before. I would like to be a movie star and only star in romance movies beside the handsomest men. I'm probably better suited for comedy though. Because sometimes my life is a joke. Always a thought provoking piece from you Mr. E.

I enjoyed this so much, and so true. "Pompous Stars Impossible to reach". We get sucked into their lives so easily because fall in love with their characters, but we can never reach that status, and should we even want too.

However, i love a good movie, but I enjoy old movies so much better.

i do too ..and like you more so the old ones ..actors on stage are doing their job ..but it seems that their "acting" has no boundaries and neither the egos as social and political comment (usually to a captive audience) are delivered as if there were no question as to the validity of their point of view .. and all others so far "beneath" theirs .. they are simply not worthy of recognition let alone respectful discussion .. and that is the crux of inspiration for this one .. thanks James for stopping by .i will surely return the favor :)

I got the meteor shower reference (still have a cricked neck from watching the last one - what was it the Leonides??) - they are but sparks in the grand scheme of things and yet there influences can permeate generations so they should better weigh up their soundbites and err more on the side of societal responsiblity than what will get them the most likes lol

I see a mirror here, politicians who speak of protecting the people, yet in their work promote gun violence. I enjoy violent films. When I was a boy, I'd imitate them in play. If I'd had access to a gun, I might have killed someone. Violence excites me. I'm more interested in the opinions of my neighbors than those of entertainers. I'm not very interested in my neighbors' opinions. Haha
I'd like to see guns banned in my country.

hello mattavelli (love your handle man!) you have taken the opposite pole on this one ..i am so glad you reviewed ... and thank you for .. violence at the movies certainly excites ..its why it is used by movie makers .. same as sex .. it sells .. i use to pretend army and cowboys and shooting and dying too .. but it was just fun play .. it never crossed that line of "illness" if i may .. banning guns assumes compliance with the law; criminals do not have that place in their heads .. and the few who legally own guns and go off the deep end will never be stopped ...our FBI statistics:

Those statistics show that 2/3 of those crimes were committed using firearms.
I was born in the USA, lived here most of my life. I've lived in Tampa, Miami, Mobile, and Chicago. I was named after Marshal Matthew Dillon, from tv's Gunsmoke. I don't think violent entertainment should be banned. I think guns should be banned. They do no good in our cities, only harm. In my opinion, it is criminal negligence that allows the gun culture to persist, and the guilty parties are the lawmakers. We must treat children like children. Don't let them run with scissors. 
Guns are a lot like cigarettes. They make young people feel cool and they kill. Our society has dropped a boot on tobacco with heavy regulation/taxes and by educating and stripping away the "coolness". However,  the issue of guns inspires too much passion... Old story, group A  says these things are dangerous and should be banned or more tightly regulated, while groups B - Z disagree with group A for various reasons, all pointing to the 2nd amendment of our constitution to support their stance. Meanwhile, children and criminals are, through accident or intent, killing people with guns. 
Here is why our government is impotent:

Amendment II
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Group A reads this and says - hey, this idea that we need a militia to secure our free state is totally outdated. We have plenty of military and police forces. So clearly, banning or tightening regulations on firearms would not violate this amendment.

Groups B - Z refuse to discuss it. They make up a majority in our house of representatives. They are guilty of negligence when a child finds a gun on a park bench. 

We can move toward a solution by voting them out of office.

ps. most by felons using those firearms...having them very illegally .. i have owned and operated all kinds of weapons... taught my children what they do .. i (nor they) are enamored by guns and violence ... i am all for getting the "guns" away from those for who it is illegal to have ... but i will carry mine always .. self defense and my own enjoyment of hunting, trapping and target shooting ... it is not only a protected .. but an honor as a responsible USA Citizen ...we do disagree .. and i truly do respect your position my friend ..i am very happy you felt free and compelled to respond as you have .. love and peace

I have trouble seeing things from varied perspectives. And, I cant see how distributing weapons to the population makes for a safer environment for to any but the more violent. The loss of your right to hunting and sport seems justified to me, if it would prevent thousands of deaths per year; but with our new government, it's a nonissue anyway. Haha
I'd like to spend some time near mountains. Florida is very flat. Maybe I'll convince my wife to take a trip this year.

Are you referring to the Perseides son's and daughters of Perseus and Andromeda? Or the Perseids meteor shower? Or perhaps that worthless hero in League of Legends? Hmm, I suppose these super stars must think they're gods & goddesses when put next to us regular folk, and to see a meteor fall is certainly a show, and "useless heroes" is a pretty good summary of how I feel about those Hollywood types. Always so lofty with their hypocritical jabbering. Maybe if they used their powers for ACTUAL good instead of poppycock they would get more respect from the likes of me. But what do I know?

Ya, I find the whole new breed of political activist/environmental crusading Hollywood actors hard to swallow. Size 12 (normal) women crusading for fat acceptance and then dropping to a size 2 on the cover of some magazine -- Leo flying around the world telling us about our carbon footprints -- his home the size of three or four full size family homes. Make your name toting guns and blowing up things, and then rally for gun control. Yup. Shiny. Plastic. Unreal.

I love musicals, live and celluloid.. However, these days, as someone who sees most movies when they're old.. and i mean old.. they outplay their performers. - the so.called stars.The actors are pawns enclosed in albeit clever stuff but -

Recently however, I actually sat in a real.life movie studio! What i saw was life, played predominantly by amateurs; had a hell of a lot of ad libbing; no music (thank the gods). But i wept at its reality.. as did my companions. Ok. Few people pay to see life in the raw for entertainment. What that particular audience had seen was real. At the end, as the lights went up, the audience stood and applauded. The name of the movie was 'I, Daniel Blake.' Not a star as such start to finish.

Perhaps movie goers need their would -be stars wrapped in gloss and dross.. dont know. But for many, truth makes the heart live on.. the rest is forgotten. As are so many personalities who eventually and unlike Dickens, Moliere, and the like - will fade... oops.. I talk to much. Would never have made silent movies.

So what was the theme of your inspiring poem, written by a mind that's far, far clearer than mine!! You're a star in your own write, mister.

Hello, yet again, apologies for typing too much.. must stop that but.. am sometimes inspired - here i go again!

Am English, the film is famous for its director, Ken Loach.. if it doesnt make headlines in awards.. tho they are mediocre in themselves these days.. it will be cinematic sacrilege. The filk went out on release but seems to have showed in few places.. There's no sex, no music, no car chases, no stabs or bombs.. tis .. what it is. I am so sorry, done it again.. You inspire me to tangents. will disappear in a cloud of guilt now.
