That Dreadful Night

That Dreadful Night

A Poem by KristiLee

As he walked down the street, shuffling his feet,
He didn't want it to come to an end.
As she sat in the dark, waiting alone in the park,
She was just wishing he wouldn't come 'round that bend.
But he was there, breathing in the cold air,
Wishing she didn't didn't look so sad.
She looked into his eyes, trying hard not to cry,
Thinking, "Why did this have to end so bad?"
He looked away from her face, staring out into space,
Relaxed his shoulders and let out a sigh.
She looked down at her feet, and in a voice soft and sweet,
Said, "Does this have to be goodbye?"
He stared at her a while, her face lacking that beautiful smile,
And regretfully said, "I'm afraid so..."
She had tears  rolling down her cheek, and she felt so very weak,
As she sat there and watched him go.
Again he walked down the street, shuffling his feet,
Relieved his difficult task was completed.
Once again she sat in the park, alone in the dark,
Wondering why she ever cheated.
