I love you, Dad.

I love you, Dad.

A Poem by KristiLee
"

I am a teenage girl, so i dont personally know this situation, but I based it off of My cousin, Joe and his family.

"

Joe's going off to the army today,

Debbie, his mother, didn't know what to say

Krista, his girlfriend, was given a scare

Too much for me, I hardly could bear.

As I sat in my study saying not a word,

" I love you dad was all that I heard.

He gave a sigh and left with a SLAM!

To follow the footsteps of old Uncle Sam.

Debbie was quiet but scared, I could tell.

Krista regretted saying farewell.

As I thought it over in my head,

"I love you dad" is all that he said.

It has only been a week since we saw him last,

But it seems like a lifetime has gone past.

Debbie hugs his picture to get through each day,

And in the end, all we can do is pray.

But I still could not believe my ears,

"I love you dad" I had not heard that in years.

Now a month has passed us by,

And all of us just want to cry.

'Cause all this time without our son

Really isn't our idea of fun.

All I want to know is when I'll hear him say,

"I love you dad" for you don't hear it everyday.

A day, a week, a month, a YEAR!

And seldom do we ever hear

From our son who has gone so long ago.

We're beginning to think he's - wait! NO!

Those words. I need to hear them one more time.

"I love you dad" came from behind!

I whipped around and froze right there,

Debbie came in and began to stare.

We all ran together to hug and to kiss,

For while he was away, our so we did miss.

Krista rushed in, hearing the news,

"I love you son" I said, for the wars we didn't lose.

We sat and we talked, we enjoyed a good meal,

Because our son coming home was a really big deal.

Now we were all quiet and Joe had the floor,

He said that his news couldn't wait anymore.

He reached in his pocket, got down on his knee

"I love you, Krista, will you marry me?"

"Being away made me realize what's true,"

He said, "For the rest of my life, I want to be with you."

With a smile on her face and a tear in her eye,

She answered yes and started to cry.

Debbie and I were as happy as could be.

"I love you dad" Kristi said to me!
