Two Steps to the Rear

Two Steps to the Rear

A Poem by Ironbutt
"

From cold coffee and eggs in the morning to an insuperable friendship... military life has its moments.

"
One rule that seems to be clear..
never, never, ever volunteer..
ya right!
From shining the mop bucket in the middle of the night..
to displaying my underwear dress right..
sleeping and peeing in two holes apart..
worrying about what is coming through the dark..
shooting at nothing and then crying about it all...
coming back with memories of those who took the fall....
two steps to the rear.....
Figuring out the language and habits of others...
commandos, Rok Rangers, trackers ..all brothers...
all hope for a future of peace..
sit around telling jokes...
a quite moment to eat.
Walk around now, surrounded by ghosts...
hard sometimes to let those memories go...
two steps to the rear......

A stark view of what it is like to be in the military. Never easy living with a bunch of people from all over the USA. Each with his/her own quirks, dislikes, and likes. Well expressed. Lydi**
