"

. . .

"
. . .

something like that melting
landscape i can't peel my-
self away from; that contagious
half-understood, mostly-made-up,
paper-white-black-ink art

like the thoughts i felt
mulling + smashing around
through your brain when i
reached in there that one time
not knowing what i might find,

that was something.  and i
won't soon forget that sen-
sation of pain that you pro-
jected back at me; that perfect
mirror of myself, just, not

alone and a little different.
when you said i was on your mind
for the briefest of moments
it was true and you weren't
a liar or whatever or something.

while it lasted it was something
worth grasping at; worth reaching
for; worth getting up and walking
for; or something. until it wasn't
and i wasn't or willing or able

to waste any more time trying
to keep that perishable promise
from melting away under a light
mist.  no rivers of tears or sappy
sentiments, just a quick-erase.

. . .
