Mistress No. 1

Mistress No. 1

A Poem by Hannah Cheng
"

When the businessman cheats on the mistress.

"

She pulls her hair back,

And walks outta the room

I look at you and smile

You kiss me on the shoulder

No one has to know

And no one has to breathe

What we do together

When that girl leaves

So after all this time

And all those talks and

laughs

You finally said

“No

I have to leave you in the past”

But you said

you’d leave

her.

You said we,

would get married

And get a house

A dog

Some kids

A dog.

I want dogs

with you.

I want kids

with you.

I want life with you.

But you want her.

But now my chest’s falling apart

What finally changed your mind?

Am I not sexy, not smart?

Am I not…    oh.

That’s right.

I’ll always be your

Mistress.

Some girl you sneak around with,

When she’s not in the kitchen

I’ll always be that chick

You call up when you’re bored

And say things you don’t mean

So you can go explore

But It’s okay, man

You’re a businessman

You go on “business trips”

To see who you can land

You’ll tell her that you love her

You’ll tell me that you care

You’ll tell us all your stories

As you’re kissing on her hair

But

I guess,

that is in fact

karma for me.

I’m a bad person, so now you’re bad to me

And it’s okay, dude

You’re a businessman.

You tell your business friends

And they become your biggest fan

Damn

did you hear about Jim,

the other night?

He made promises to this girl,

And promises to his wife

And he just got a new one

Yeah she’s real f*****g hot

She’s thick and dresses classy

What a pretty thought

When Mistress number one

When she walked outta the room

The new one looked at him

And he kissed her on the shoulder.

I like your free verse style, though it's different from my own. This is a strong poem, not self-pitying as it could easily have been. It seems that in the eternal male-female dance, women may have the edge in the short run but men seem to gain it in the long run. Not fair, but then life isn't fair.

Well, this certainly seems like a case of...I wanta', but can't hava', oh well, what difference does it make?
You've vented your thoughts, and I think pretty well too.
You asked about favorite books. One of my favorites is, Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It's an oldie but goodie.

Really good piece. The way in which your writing came across to me was that it felt like the woman was telling the man her inner thoughts. I personally liked this bit the best "You’ll tell her that you love her
You’ll tell me that you care
You’ll tell us all your stories
As you’re kissing on her hair "

This part must happen to so many people, thier minds in turmoil at what they want and yet they can't have it.
Really good piece on the mind of a mistress and karma too.

Mark.
