Monsters

You used to make me watch

the scariest of films

and even now I find it hard

to find a reason in that,

why you would wish to fill

my innocent mind with such images.

Was I not growing quickly enough for you?

were my dreams so peaceful

that you felt the need to add

a few more monsters to my repertoire.

Last night I dreamed that I

was lying in a drawer

when you closed it.

Just shut it,

sealing me in darkness

like a discarded pair of socks.

How would you feel to know

that you feature in my dreams

a greater demon than the ones

you tried to put there.

Dreaming of being shut in a drawer is such a powerful, chilling thought and makes for brilliant lines! That ending, as well, is incredible. This was a powerful read!

. oh my god !!! ... this is dynamite ... i remember trying to watch a horror movie with my soul mate ... i tried to cling as i am not brave at all ... and he shunned me ... saying ... "you're supposed to feel scared while watching a horror movie" ... he doesn't appear as a monster in my nightmares ... but i was pretty upset at not being allowed to cling ... i was genuinely scared but he just couldn't understand ... this is a very, very powerful piece ... very vivid too ... superbly written, my friend ...

Thanks again Serah - I used to know a woman who allowed her child to watch horror movies and then threaten him with visits from the monsters if he misbehaved! That was the inspiration for this - although the dream of being shut in a drawer was all mine. I have the strangest dreams at times
