A Poem by Marie Anzalone

DEDICATION

I dedicate these lines to those who always laugh

To those who always win

Time after time, focused without ever looking back

For those who do not know their own tears

For those whose days are without shame or sorrow

With endless summers, and only warm and happy nights in their lives

Because of the things they own, their bodies, for their constant success at everything,

for their favorite words: I, MY, MINE

To those for whom every instant and moment of success was obtained through their own efforts.

To the admired, and above all, to those who admire themselves in front of the mirror

For those looking down their nose at others who are not them

To those for whom contempt is only natural…

To them, I dedicate these sad and sarcastic lines:

May their lives be eternal, filled with I, MY, MINE

That there is nothing else after this life

That their paradigms be all that counts

And everything be always rose-colored, like in the fairy tales.

Author's Note

Marie Anzalone
This is the second of 3 very special poems. They are not mine- they are my translations into English of the poetry of my friend and fellow Quetzaltenango poet Alejandro Barthet- a Guatemalan poet whose work has never before been featured internationally. Below, you can find his orignal words, in Spanish:

"
DEDICATORIA
