WINTER ROSE

WINTER ROSE

A Poem by Helena

WINTER ROSE

Alone she stood while silently

snowflakes slowly caressed

her shoulders…

Shoulders now stooped from life

her long road out of Eden

almost done

Looking back now is not an option

It never was...

Looking towards the future

with dimmed eyes

she could see softly in the distance

her special star

a constant star

that chartered her way

over rivers of arid desert sands

grey mountains of mourning

Searching for dreams among the living

In the dead of night praying in lonely prose

Longings of rainbows

echoed the chill night air

Contentment fitted her like a cloak now

soaked in the dye of Eden’s cascading

waterfalls and rainbow coloured flowers

sown as seeds by God

planted to nurture and grow

Memories trickled in her mind

Life had not always been struggle and pain

blossoms did bloom unexpectedly

along the way

Winter sometimes managed to produce

deep from within the snow

A Rose….

Above all she kept her faith within

her heart

hoping that faith would reward her one day

Tightening her shawl around her frail shoulders

ready to face the coming blizzard

she stooped with shaking hands to pick a Rose

A Rose that had suddenly

bloomed for her ~

Here it is in July and I just finished reading Your poem "Winter Rose" and the chills ran through me. Such imagery. A good poem.

Stunning poem, Helena! Life blooms like a winter rose on occasion and is all the more appreciated as a result. I do believe this is one of my favorites among your poems!

This had a truly magical quality. It seems today that I've read so many good things when normally I'm speckled with the good, the okay and the I just don't like it but this is one of my favorites of today. The progression was a great story and the ending gave hope that even in desolation, hardship and pain hope still has a place in the world. Beautiful write.

Helena, I like the fluidity and imagery of your "Winter Rose" poem.

And I thank you for enjoying my "Streetwalker" which I entered in Tovli's 10/40 contest.
