Terminal

A story based on the song "Fly Away" by JoJo

"

My name is Sydney Smith. Hollywood has always been my dream. My passion for music had started when I was four. My mother told me that it was during my uncle’s birthday party when they first heard me sing a whole song. They said that I sang with all my heart and they felt it. Since then, my mother has accompanied me in pursuing a career in music.

I am now eighteen years young. I still have the same dreams but I am not sure about chasing them right now. Here I am, standing in front of a guy named Tyler. He is the love of my life, and I have never met anyone like him. I never thought that of all people, he would be the one who would hold me back from my dreams.

It was about an hour ago when I was still sitting in a silver steel bench in this terminal. My flight was scheduled at 10:45 in the morning. I have always said that once I had the opportunity, I would grab it and follow my dreams. But there’s this part of me that never wanted to leave. All because of Tyler.

I could still remember that day we spent at the beach. It was so perfect that I actually felt like it was the last day of our lives. I will never forget the way we laughed together, the way he carried me on his shoulders, and the way we chased each other. It was a perfect day and it’s one of those days that I would never trade for anything.

Yesterday, I gave him an envelope containing a plane ticket that I bought for him. I wanted him to come with me. Making a long-distance relationship work is really difficult, but I know we can do it. But I wanted him to be with me as my dreams come true.

“Come with me,” I told him as soon as he opened the envelope and took out the ticket. For the first time, I never saw a smile in his face. His eyes expressed confusion. I didn’t even know what he was thinking that time.

“I can’t do this,” he told me as he looked me straight into the eye. Then he inserted the ticket back to the envelope and gave it to me. To my surprise, I didn’t even know why I said nothing and kept holding the envelope. I was stunned that I never realized that he walked out of the door of my hotel room. I never realized that tears started flowing from my eyes.

I already heard the last call for the passengers traveling on the flight I was on. Yet, there was no sign of him. Not a call and not even a single text message. I stood up and hung my black leather shoulder bag on my right shoulder as I pulled my strollers. I was walking towards the entrance for the plane. I looked over at the entrance doors of the terminal and there was still no sign of him. I stopped and I looked down. I could feel I was about to cry, but I tried my best to hold the tears back. As I turned on my way back, I saw a man standing in front of me. How could I not recognize him? It was Tyler. Finally.

I walked slowly towards him as tears started flowing from my eyes. All I could see and think of was his face. I never took notice if he had his luggage with him.

“You don’t have to cry,” he told me, as he shed my tears with his fingers. Just a few seconds later, I couldn’t help it. I threw myself into him and wrapped both of my arms around him. It made me cry more as he hugged me back. I thought he would never talk to me again after what happened. I thought we were over. My eyes were closed as we embraced each other. I wanted to make the most of that moment until it lasted.

I could see loneliness in his face. It’s like there were tears collecting in his eyes and he was just holding them back. Then, without any second thought, he moved towards me and kissed me. As our lips locked, I could feel a lot. I felt how much he loves me. I also felt like it was his sign of saying goodbye. It also crossed my mind that it maybe his sign of telling me he will come with me.

He never let go of my hand. We were staring at each other’s eyes and after a few seconds of silence, he spoke out two words that put me in this crossroad.

          “Please stay.”

I'm actually not sure if the song title is really "Fly Away". I could really use some feedback.

EDIT: Updated it. Thanks to Tucker! :)

I thought it was a nice story. I liked how it didn't follow the regular corny storyline of him showing up and going with her, but instead leaving her with a hard decision.

Also, in the first paragraph, in the sentence: "My passion for music has started when I was four.", I think the 'has' would work better as a 'had'. it would work better with the verb tense you were writing in.

Overall nice story :)
