Road Trip

Road Trip

A Poem by Crowley
"

A poem I wrote to read at the end of the eulogy I did for my dad a couple weeks ago. I will miss him.

"

By day we travel quickly to the banks of the river grand and step lightly, knowing

The fish will be there and you will tell me to watch my damn pole and quit fidgeting

By night we travel carefully and listen to Six Days on the Road, the smell of axle grease overpowering

Home is just around the corner and sleeping in our own bed pulls us ever onward, dozing

In death you travel unencumbered, the days work done and if not, so what

Your shadow lives on and builds bridges that connect the hearts and minds of those left behind

That was really beautiful! Losing a father is so hard. I lost mine 4 years ago. I am truly sorry for your loss!

Such a loss is terribly hard to bear; but this is a spiritually uplifting poem nevertheless, the last line especially so.

Beccy.

WOW! WOW! And WOW! I am stunned by your ability to put this into such a tight & artful package! I love the quick running narrative, summoning visuals & other intense memories to pique all the senses. I'm sorry for your loss . . . & thank you for opening your tweaked heart for us to see & feel you even better (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This detail was my favorite one . . .
A lump in the throat inducing, heartfelt ode to the paternal figure whose watchful gaze will never elude his son. The memory of a fishing trip, the quaint journey together with its imperfections seem all too vivid. The culminating lines are emotional and for the first time, in a long time, one has trouble expressing herself.

This has moved me.

Be strong.

Best,
M.

Thank you so much...your review is lovely and appreciated!
A great poem, a fine example of showing rather than telling. You brought your reader a piece of the life you experienced with your father and I could feel his essence in your words. This makes the poem an awesome tribute to your father. Appreciated very much...

You too Crowley
With much respect, a wonderful tribute as I can't even fathom the weight. I imagine through this you have caught one magnificent marlin or perhaps a simple cool drunken tan. Either way a hard memory graciously shared. Thank you for that.

What a profound piece, Crowley. I'm sure your every word must have been felt in your throat as you read it. What a treasure of a keepsake to honor his memory!
