December Rose

December Rose

A Poem by Tony Hwilka

The old man stops

              beside a bush

its buds

              dipped in ice.

What color will the petals be

              or will they remain enclosed?

A simple thought

              so powerful he trembles.

Sadness hushes the moment

              he questions his concern.

This is so dynamic and deep. You leave me pondering. A special poem.

a subtle and introspective little poem. tightly written, simple in its message and vast in metaphor.
Enjoyed!
(one ridiculously small observation: "pedals" a typo? maybe petals?
