My Son

My Son

A Poem by Tony Hwilka

How easy it is to say

what you will do or act to your son

when you're still my son

I know -- I did

not making excuses -- a

father does what he thinks he has to do

some wrongs, knowing he is not going to be liked

even hated -- but he does

not to have his son. -- hug or kiss him

no emotions showing.

How abandoned a father feels

he loves -- cries inside.

I will mature my son

the day you are of age

Remember -- first a son -- a man

then abiding father.

A very honest and moving poem. I can just imagine your reading it with so much feeling.
