New York City

A Poem by Tony Hwilka
"

"

Being up most of the night

with my son of six weeks.

Jan my wife awakens me

with a kiss -- alarm

   had no effect.

When I arrived for work

in Tower One I was tired.

Sitting alone thinking

how good it will be

to sleep tonight.

Interrupted by a flash

before my next thought

body gone -- my mind afloat

in an ocean of flame and smoke.

Within a second I cross beyond

into a dream I need to explore

bodies and concrete intertwined

smell of fuel so strong my mind

does not comprehend the confusion

of dead people screaming.

I was taught to be calm

focus on happiness

and time will change its tune.

From out of the smoke

death will not be in vain

I see our Country's Flag

still waving.

Very well penned....emotive in content, and written from your heart so clearly describing the feelings of this terrible tragedy in American and indeed human history.

Well done!
