McClosky's Resident Drunk

McClosky's Resident Drunk

A Poem by Tony Hwilka

Here I find myself to be

Holding down this bar you see

Keeping it steady from

A'weaving and a' waving

While I drink a beer to wash

The thrist of dusted misery

As McClosky the bar man nears

I give a yell " Heeey!!!

I'll have some of that

Pour that whisky here in my glass".

Through narrowing eyes he replies

"You have had enough leave this bar

And please; don't hurry back"

I take this insult

as gracefully as I can

Stepping back I yell again

"McClosky -- go s**t in your hat

For I'd have to be sober

To want to come back"

The poem made me laugh! I can just see the drunk teetering and squinting past the barman with his requests.

funny and well written - but you wrote it in 2008, not overnight! What's the point in a Quick Contest if you submit something you wrote last year?

Thank you for sharing your wit and humor (there is a hint of sadness as well). I appreciate this poem. Love and peace,

Regis
