These RED shoes

These RED shoes

A Poem by +she plays with matches+

Today I tried on my new red shoes; cycled a mile or two.
Found an open crack and tripped over you.  This concrete
never felt so good.  Made up with bruised knees and twisted
ankles. You found me damaged, my hair wrapped around the
wheels in tangles.

So you watch as I try to pull at my dress.
So you smile as I gag on the bloody mess.
So you laugh at your sprawling success.

Yesterday you gave me these new red shoes. I wore
them today without a clue. Today I lie here, bleeding over
you.  This concrete never felt so cold.  Made up with
bruised skin and a busted chin. You found me damaged,
dreaming of London, Paris, Berlin......

Interesting piece... The title grabbed me. In school we studied the significance of "red" in poetry, and especially the idea of "red shoes"...have you read the story about the little girl and the red shoes? It goes something like...the little girl saw the shoes in the window, but was not allowed to get them because they were not sensible, but she ended up getting her hands on them anyway and began to dance, which was fun at first, but she couldn't stop dancing and eventually it killed her. Or something along those lines...

I liked this piece...very metaphorical and sensory. The colors were vibrant, as were the images. Loved the "dreaming of London, Paris, Berlin..."--great transitory images...

And so, I wonder through this adventure with you, where pain could feel so good even when it looks bad. The concrete was the bed of life and the red shoes never touched the ground. They cycled and you wore them in dismay, but they never made a mark on that bed of life. Good write

I find it interesting too, when I reread it, I see another layer of meaning to it. I knew not what .. read more
Does she was need the Good Witch to tell her to click them together and get the hell out of there? Sorry, blame it on the pic of those ruby red shoes. I love this poem! Something new and filled with hope and happiness suddenly turn sour and leaves her day/life completely changed. Great write!! My review might suck but I truly meant well and I love this poem.

This is an unusual write and there are different ways to interpret this piece.... The red shoes were meant to be a gift- but they caused this little girl to get wounded. Likewise people come in camouflages- some in disguise of friends and they don't hesitate to stab you on your back, the first chance they get.. I loved the write.. It made me think about different possibilities that it arouse... and I settled for this one...Dark, vivid tones abundant in this piece and it still puts the message across... Well done :)

I think this is one of my favourite poems :-) The different meanings and interpretations one could obtain from these lines is amazing! For me the first impression I had was the idea of people who were with you but when things start to go downhill, they distance themselves away from you. They seem to take an almost delighted stance at your fall, trying to gain self-importance and security at your failure.
