M
y life
, sometimes I  ponder,
God.....did he fashion my hands and skin from another?
Am I just a recovered tired vessel,
refurbished lung and breath, reassembled, to be something fragile?

My fears and defects I feel are not my own,
borrowed and rented maybe, from someone once known.
Your voice just a proverbial song.
It feels ancient, but like an undercurrent, it carries me along.

My story perhaps is a plagiarism of you,
a reincarnation of what I might answer, and what I might do.
With every deliberate ill-mannered step,
someone before me, has already passed, lingered, and slept.

My soul, has it lived before?
It seems to be the same narrow path, but a different revolving door.
Seeking answers in restorative dreams,
this body, however temporary, is not what it seems.

My thumbprint, a reminder of her,
your girlish vision, a familiar relic, with a haunting blur.
Is this a case of refuted Deja vu?
Or just maybe, she's a vicarious spirit, that has been there too.

Author's Note

Muse
At a very young age, as young as 3 or 4, I would dream over and over again, that I was some young girl from India. Royalty perhaps, or a servant to royalty. I found it odd that I would dream about such a thing at an age, when I had yet to even understand or comprehend countries or cultures such as India. Nevertheless, with these dreams still vivid, and a feeling of deja vu every now and then. I found a picture that reminded me of "Her". The girl in my dreams....

Rebirths and reincarnations are aplenty in Indian mythology, but I was really drawn in by the concept when I read about the River Lethe in Greek mythology where souls would go to wash the memories clean of their previous life. It's all so... fascinating.

This is indeed a marvellous poem, searching for answers we may never find. I felt "My story perhaps is a plagiarism of you" was a brilliant line!

Oooo...you have no idea how much I love this poem! I can relate to this poem. I get deja vu's too! It is interesting having past memories that we haven't even seen or gone through but we just feel it and see it in our dreams. That's cool about your dream though. =) For me, I actually dream about Russia.. I feel a pull there even though I still haven't been there. But I've had dreams about my past living there and how i was... Really fascinating,..
This is a brilliant poem. =D I loved it.

That is odd that you would have such dreams. The authors note along with the poem brings me to questioning, phenomenal poem.

Your poetry is always so interesting and your pen rests in many different areas but always it seems to stream from your soul. I really like your woke in plan English. I have never experienced this kind of experience and if I was here before I sure didn't learn much about life. I think it is wonderful that you have this de ja vu maybe even blessed. Great write.

. wow ... it's amazing to chance upon this rather intriguing and yet earnest piece of writing ... being an indian, i've heard many speak about reincarnation with an unbelievable conviction ... being a history major ... i can comprehend a sense of belonging to another culture ... i've studied several and identified with some elements of some of them ... in the absence of proof, what one can say with certainty is that human beings are far more connected at a purely humane level than we care to admit or respect ... this, therefore, to me ... is a very special tribute to those connections ...

Such an intriguing message and poem, especially given your explanation of your childhood dreams. The structure is strong, although a little at odds with the random nature of the dreams themselves. The questioning is deep and articulate, too. Thank you so much for sharing.
