I Can't Make You Love Me

I Can't Make You Love Me

A Poem by Vertigoingnowhere

I’m tired, worn out, exhausted

I’ve tried and tried and tried some more

I’ve tried to fill my mind with thoughts other than of you

It works for only a minute then I’m back to where I began

I’ll stop fighting now, I promise I will.

But I’ll hate every second of it.

I messed it all up, I got selfish and wanted more

But I can’t make you love me if you don’t

I can’t make your heart feel something it won’t

All I can do is look back on the smiles you gave me and the memories we shared

It isn’t enough but it’ll have to do

When those nights come, when I don’t want to sleep alone

I'll wait till my blood turns into alcohol

I’ll sit in the grass, look at the stars and hope you’re doing well

Hope to god that you don’t feel how I do

And pray you’ll forget

Of the sandy situation that turned into just a story

Because I can’t make you love me if you never did

I can’t make your heart feel something it never has

So take care of yourself and don't look back

The past is the past

Its nothing more than watery nostalgia running down my cheeks

Such a good write! The rawness is clear but doesn't sacrifice flow or structure. This resonates with me a lot right now and I think anytime your art is able to connect with someone, it's accomplished it's goal. I hope you're still writing!

A powerful poem. Hard to accept that love cannot be. I like the flow of thoughts leading to the sad ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

A perfected pay out that makes the piece easy to read, graded thought and relaxed wording, well done, good read.
