A Thief In The Night

A Thief In The Night

A Poem by Mario Vitale
"

love

"

I was born to discover the free love to explore so much more
in time I would wander up a yonder carrying on with a song
as a young G in the hood I was up to no good rapping like you knew I would
looked at the rolling hills with the cheap thrills thought to pay my bills

busted out my first song in my early teens with kings and queens
new that there was a battle in store could hear from the crowd would roar
my flames got a lot of applause but I was still so very empty inside
at night I returned to my bed and prayed to the one up above to deliver me

got messed up with drugs and the feeling of power to take over
I still knew there was something missing in the back of my mind
so I wandered in a church got down on my knees to pray help me father
with words to say to embrace the day the deep longing from inside

I was mindful of my sorroundings thought I had a following

Rap was a thing of the past but at first glance I would ask why so I continued
my flames would be locked as you have no doubt forgot this homeboy do think a lot
buried my feet in the sand while I was working on my tan you all understand
like a late night double feature I was flaming like a rap creature

knew that I was destined for awe so much greater
would beat box until the my flow was grown
in time I would shine at the Apollo theatre thought of nothing so greater
my first record landed me props getting me a*s to the tops

today I still pray until I meet God on that faithful day
ripping fresh tracks soaring to new heights busy as a thief in the night
