How to Melt a Dragon

How to Melt a Dragon

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

How to melt a dragon

She has the sword ready to slay the dragon.

He swings his tail around and knocks her cold.

The dragon looks at her unconscious form.

As she lies on the hard late-summer earth,

He sees her true core.

He senses her beautiful soul,

His cold lonely heart melts.

His dark-brown crest turns fiery red.

The dead dormant fire in his belly is re-ignited.

He carefully picks her up.

He holds her gently in his arms.

Stroking her hair until she awakes.

Her eyes flutter open and gaze upon him without fear.

Ever-changing irises pulsate with kindness at him.

She gently strokes his scales as she looks into his eyes.

Deep in his eyes she sees something no one else has.

He feels her tenderly touch his soul.

In surprise, he almost drops her.

She touches a part of him,

A part he has kept well hidden from the world.

She lifts her head every close.

He feels her breath against his nose.

A single tear rolls down his check.

Her hand carefully stretches out.

She wipes the tear away and touches the tear to her lips.

It tastes like brine-cured olives and sweet cherries.

She whispers you should never try to hide your true self from me.

Fire shot out his mouth over her head warming the air.

She was not frightened she understands.

He bows his head.

Their lips touch.

A long lingering soft kiss,

His breath feels warm and inviting.

Her breath is sweet like honey and flowers.
