Our Mother

Our Mother

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Our Mother

She lays there in silence and pain
We come and go many times

As we watch and wait hearts bleeding
We feel floods of memories

She in pain brought us into this world
We were raised with care and love

As we look upon her hurting pale body
We are torn between two desires

She as always makes the choice
We watch as she slowly fades

As we see her slip away from this earth
We feel her heart within each of us

My son is 20 months old. To him, whenever someone walks through a door without him they are lost. I imagine this is how he feels when his mother goes somewhere he does not. Perhaps, in a way, a small child knows more about loss than anyone. Well done on this piece. It brought me to a different level in my paradigm. I love the first two stanzas the most, they start the poem with power, contrasting with the last where the poem comes to an end like a sigh.

I'm sorry for your loss of your Father, I lost mine 3 years ago and I'm still having a hard time with it. I don't think it matters what age you are, it hits hard.

This hits home. The loss of a mother is not just a aching heart. Its like someone took a knife and jabed in there so far it can't be found, so there is always pain.

I really enjoy writings that help us remember our mama's and how they help guide us to be who we are today.

No one can replace a mother. Seems like a tribute to all the mothers, their unconditional love and their painstaking parenting of their children. Wonderfully written!
