There's a letter lying on the floor that she's too scared to read.
There’s a letter lying on the floor
That she’s too scared to read
It’s blood stained and burned
And smells of his cologne
And every night she goes to bed wrapped up
in his old t-shirt Because it still smells
like him and, oh God, she never wants to forget that smell
There’s a picture in her wallet
Tucked between a credit card
And an old ticket stub
She never takes it out
But it’s always there
In case she needs to see him
He had this wide smile that shone like the
sun, it could clear the clouds on a rainy day She never wanted to forget
the way he looked at her with love in his eyes and the sun in his smile
There’s a room in that apartment
With the door shut tight
She doesn’t even walk past it
Doesn’t acknowledge it’s there
Because it hurts to much to know
What happened in that room
That thunder storming night when she came
home and couldn’t find him She went in that room and
she screamed and cried until she had no more voice, no more tears
And the letter was waiting on her bed
And she smacked it onto the floor
The ink bled through the paper
Like his blood on the wooden floor
The only thing she saw
Was his familiar scrawl
Backwards through the overturned paper
Faint and shaky writing
Wow.... beautifully sad and breathtaking... I absolutely love the form in which this is written. The way you alternate from the main poem to the centered italics. Brilliant work. Definitely a 100%
