Driven by dreams

Driven by dreams

A Poem by hoyt

           At sleep in my dreams
    I see desires,
but also see
    things tangled in wires.
Some dreams, I hope
     will come true.
others  I fear
    may come true too.
In sleep the reins
    slip from my hand,
as dreams drive the carriage
   through its own twisted land.
The galloping of thoughts
   choose dark or light,
on this path of mystery
   I'm driven through  the night.
To the dawn I plead
   "don't come,..or come quick,"
if the dream is  bringing comfort,
   or cracking a cruel whip.
The sunrise will beckon
   the end of the ride,
waking opens the door,
   I step from inside.
When the suns setting comes
   and sleep calls again,
do I eagerly ride?
...or dare to step in?
Well, the fate of our mind
at least while sleeping it seems,
is to ride where it's taken
at the whim of our dreams......

Your words and flow just give such a perfect painting of the worlds found in our dreams. The contrasts we find as we sleep, moving over us and through us, helped me feel the depth of this one so well. Excellent write!

Very lighthearted and magical... to dream we must allow our imagination to fly above the clouds of reality to see what is truly possible. Very nicely done.

What a wonderful write on the intagible mystery of dreams. One never knows what dreams may come once those eyes are shut. Ironic, I was just thinking yesterday about dreams; what are they really, how do they form images in our sleep.. this is a nice thought provoking write.

'the whim of our dreams' ...... what a great line!

As you rightfully say, there are dreams we want to come true, others that come true but aren't wanted.. but, what can we do but live life, take the good times like the good dreams as part of being human.. and the same in reverse with the bad... 'In sleep the reins / slip from my hand, / as dreams drive the carriage / through its own twisted land.'

You certainly have a way with words. Bravo a hundred times!
