When

When

A Poem by Frankie Nguyen
"

I don't know why I wrote this. A lots been going on lately and it really started irritating me.

"

When did this world start becoming so cruel

When did the adults stop being involved

When did our hearts start filling with hate

Rather spill your blood on pavement than even look at your face

When did families start to split

Letting the streets raise their kids, tossing them aside

When did having an education become so irrelevant

Knowing more about the glocks and the drugs than your own creativity

When did it become okay for us to shoot each other in the masses

Thinking it’s okay, hell we expect it

Looking over your shoulder wondering if your next

Thinking each and every day could be your last

This world has become so corrupt

Poisoning our minds and killing our dreams

Our lives are so much more than this

We deserve the right to live

We deserve the right to speak

We deserve the right to be ourselves

Without the glares and the hate

We need to hit the books than record each others fights

We need to stick in school

The streets are just a battlefield

We need to learn the word respect

That’s all we ever preach

I respect who respects me

Whatever race

Whatever sex

Whatever path you walk along

My life is no better than yours

I’d rather have you next to me than thinking your above me

A just indictment of society today, life has become a battlefield of violence and drug abuse, your writing pinpoints all that's wrong and the last lines tell us the way to go, if people could learn from this work we could begin again and make a better world.
